Actress Vanessa A Williams, who took African Ancestry Test, smiles at Red Carpet event

Throwback Thursday: Vanessa A. Williams traces lineage to Cameroon with African Ancestry test

"This connection is more than I can speak. I'm home now!"

You know and love her from New Jack City, Soul Food, Imagine That and most recently, the 2021 Candyman adaptation. We get to honor her one more way: revealing her roots.

Vanessa A. Williams took an African Ancestry DNA Test to trace her lineage and see where her ancestors were from.

This was likely her most memorable movie theater experience ever. In Crenshaw's Magic Johnson movie theater, she learned that her lineage traced back to the Tikar and Bamileke people of Cameroon.

She knew that her family stretched down to Georgia and Virginia where her great-great grandparents were slaves, but didn't know much beyond that. Thanks to our African Ancestry tests, she was able to really know her roots.

"To finally be able to claim a specific place....It's like the [slave] boats have come back home and like in the slave narratives, we have flown back. I've flown back home," Vanessa said.
