How Does It Work?

Details

Men and Women - Test your mother's maternal ancestry.

Your DNA is destroyed. We DO NOT sell or share your genetic information.

The MatriClan Test will reveal the African country of origin and ethnic group (tribe) that you share maternal ancestry with during the past 500 - 2,000 years.* This test will not provide percentages of different regions.

Our test kits include everything you need to submit your sample, track its progress online, receive digital results and the ultimate DNA security - complete destruction of your DNA.

Your MatriClan Experience includes:

  • Official digital results from the mitochondrial DNA that men and women inherit exclusively from their mothers
  • Digital Certificate of Ancestry with specific ancestral country and tribe
  • E-book African Ancestry Guide to African History and Cultures
  • Membership in the exclusive African Ancestry Online Community on Facebook
  • Newly found sense of pride, place and belonging
  • Gateway to exploring the traditions, practices, values and beliefs of your paternal ancestor group
  • Eligibility to participate in African Ancestry Family Reunions
  • Ancestry information to share with all of your maternal grandmother's descendants

* Your maternal ancestry may not be African, despite any percentage data you may have from another company. We cannot guarantee your result will be African. THERE IS A 8% CHANCE THAT YOUR RESULT WILL BE NON-AFRICAN. If your maternal result is not African, we will identify whether it is European, Asian, Middle Eastern or Indigenous American but you will not receive a country or a group.

NO REFUNDS for non-African results.

* International customers are responsible for return postage for swabs.

Truly grateful

Hello,

I had the opportunity to meet Gina in Ghana March of 2019. We were at the same resort. I was so excited to meet her and couldn’t wait to find out my ancestry.

The company was very professional and thorough. I can’t wait to give this gift to my dad and husband.

Another surprise from the my Matriclan Test

If you are of black decent, African Ancestry is really the only choice you can make to find out and understand where you come from simply because they have the largest number of DNA samples for the black race.

I was told my roots were from the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria, particularly from the region called Ijebu. My father has always been proud of these roots that were told to him. In searching to find out who I am and after taking genetics test that some of the results were inconsistent with what I know of the people from Ijebu and the Yoruba tribe I decided to contact African Ancestry and decided to do both the Matriclan and the Patriclan tests.

I was extremely surprised when I received the results of the Matriclan test. I discovered that on my Father's side (father to father to father etc.), again was not the Yoruba tribe or even any tribe from what is known as Nigeria. The results came back that my ancestry originates 3 tribes from Gabon (two countries away from Nigeria).

Understanding the migration of Africans all over Africa for centuries, it made sense, especially as on my father's side they really do not look like the typical Yoruba Tribe person (if there is such a thing as a typical look). Many had told me that when I visited Nigeria that my father nor I looked like a Yoruba person, which I found strange thing to say as what does a Yoruba person look like.

Anyway, it has been a great journey of exploration which has answered some questions that were probably not…
